Facts about the Mongolian language:
The Mongolian language is the Mongolian language family's most well-known member, and the most important language for the inhabitants of Mongolia, where officially the Cyrillic alphabet is used. The traditional alphabet was completely abolished in 1941 by the Soviet Government. After 1990, they tried to introduce it again, but the plan was abandoned after a few years.
Outside the country, it is spoken in parts of the adjacent areas, in northern China, in Russia and Kyrgyzstan. The most prominent dialect in Mongolia is Khalkha (or Khalkha Mongolian), while those living in China use the Chahar and Oirat and in Russia, the Buryat dialect is used. Khalkha Mongolian is the official state language of Mongolia.
More than 2 million people speak it in Mongolia. At least 3 million speakers live in China, however, their share is declining due to significant Chinese immigration, mainly into the cities.
